Pomaire, Chile 2012
Was a beautiful sunday and we wanted to take advantage and enjoy the day outside of Santiago. So we decided to drive to Pomaire
Pomaire is a small town on the outskirts of Santiago. It is a great destination for a day trip from Santiago. It is around 65km and very easy to get too. Pomaire is also known as the pottery town/village and is known for all sorts of pottery. From Flower pots, to dishes, to piggy banks, wind chimes you name it they have it. All for a very good price.
Pomaire is named after the first settler Curaca Pomaire, who settled here with a group of indigenous people in 1482. As the population grew they moved to the current area where the surrounding hills were rich with clay.
The artisans have conserved the tradition of working with clay using basically the same techniques that have been passed down from generation to generation.
Pomaire is also know for its huge native empanada’s that range from a 1/2kg to a 1kg attached a picture.
